Welcome to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Retirees' Association's website. It is designed to serve as a communications link by providing information and services to Association members, current Ohio State Highway Patrol employees, other law enforcement personnel and the public at large.

The "Public", or open access area of the site, includes information about the Association, History of the Patrol, links to other sites related to the Retirees' Association and Upcoming Social Activities.

The "Members Only" area of the website is accessible by Association members through the use of a password. This area includes information on the illness of members, the death of a member or immediate family, meeting notes and other important announcements. 

We are proud of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, our Association, and retirees of the Patrol. We consider them to be the best group of people anywhere to associate with!

Our Prayer List
for our friends in distress (Updated 1/23)

Many of those in our patrol family, or their family members, are suffering through the hardships of cancer treatments or other life threatening illnesses.  A complete prayer list of our friends in distress can be found on the Member's Page.

1/23 - Ret. S/Lt. Lance Mathess is recovering at home after undergoing TLIF surgery. TLIF stands for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion. Surgeons do TLIF to relieve chronic lower back pain that happens when intervertebral disks put pressure on your spinal nerves. In TLIF, surgeons replace damaged disks with bone grafts. The bone grafts create new bone that helps fuse or join the vertebrae. The surgery went very well but Lance must wear a back brace with very limited movement over 6 weeks and then further restrictions for another 6 weeks. 


1/22 - UPDATE - Sarah Cox - From friend Linda Siddons, Sarah has recovered amazingly well from her double mastectomy in late October. Her pathology report did show some microscopic cancer cells in the right breast and 8 of the 23 lymph nodes they removed so that validated her decision to have the mastectomy. Her left breast tissue was completely clear of any cancer! We praise and thank the Lord for the healing she has had in her body over the past year!!!  Linda's complete update is available on the Member's Page.

Retired Sergeant Richard L. Schell, age 97, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026. Richard graduated from the 41st academy class on March 12, 1954, and retired January 28, 1977. He is survived by his spouse, Arlene.

In October of 2024, Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Andrew Geer, from the Mt. Gilead Post and also the twin brother of Lieutenant Matthew Geer from the Bowling Green Post, successfully received a kidney transplant due to being diagnosed with Alport Syndrome. Alport Syndrome is a rare inherited condition that causes kidney failure and hearing loss.

Unfortunately, this genetic condition is now affecting Lieutenant Matthew Geer. In October of 2025, Matthew’s health started to decline, and he has had to start receiving dialysis treatments, several times per week. While he has been receiving dialysis, his health has improved; however, he is now in need of a kidney transplant. On January 8th, 2026, Matthew was officially approved to be put on the Alliance for Paired Kidney (APKD) Donation List.  For anyone that wishes to be a kidney donor, click open the PDF's below for guidance on how to do so. 
With our condolences we report the passing of retired Sergeant Timothy 'Tim'  Dawson, age 66, of the 109th Academy Class, on Wednesday, January 21st. From wife Suzie's post on Facebook: My heart is broken. Timothy Dean Dawson, I will love you forever. Hospice has been amazing. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Thank you all for the prayers! He’s free, he’s walking, he’s with Jesus!

Sarah Cox
With our condolences, we report the passing of Sandra Fide, spouse of retired Trooper Jeffrey Fide, a graduate of the 114th Academy Class.  Sandra passed on January 11th following a couragous 3 year battle with cancer.  Services were held on January 15th.
